The Beginning...
The Beginning...
Founded in 2006, Crescent Art Gallery is home to one of the largest Modern and Contemporary South Asian art collections in Pakistan. We deal in Contemporary and Traditional Pakistani Art. Our primary art business includes special exhibitions and private sales. Founder and Chairman Mr. Nasir Javed laid out the foundations of this gallery with an aim of not just to promote Art, but to promote Pakistan and its Art across the world. Crescent Art Gallery has curated the largest exhibition held in Pakistan and also among the largest in the world exhibiting 300 paintings at a single event. This event exhibited paintings of Master Pakistani Artists such as Tassaduq Sohail, Iqbal Hussain, Chitra Pritam and Ahmed Khan. Crescent Art Gallery is also the First art gallery in Pakistan’s history to have been granted a space at the National Museum of Pakistan in Karachi. This space has been allotted for the Master Artist, Late Tassaduq Sohail’s Art Gallery to offer such an Artist Tribute.
This had been organized by Mr. Nasir Javed, Chairman Crescent Art Gallery in conjunction with the Pakistan Government, allowing our Chairman and CAG’s name to be in the pages of history. Crescent Art Gallery being a major protagonist of Art in Pakistan is also the First ever art gallery to have exhibited 100 paintings of a single artist. The artist in question being the great Late Tassaduq Sohail, held at Marriott Hotel Karachi, was also an event reminisced by many. Our values are not only to promote art in Pakistan, but promote Pakistani Art all over the world. Our First priority is Pakistan, monetary aspects being our last. We proactively pursue to promote the great artistry talent Pakistan possesses. Crescent’s inclination towards Artists is as much as it is for Art, and we care for them too with devotion, with our main focus being on their skill. Here at Crescent Art Gallery, we believe that where craft ends, art begins and this approach sets us apart from every art gallery in Pakistan to date.
Some Words about...
Mr.Nasir Javed is an art enthusiast of some years standing. It was during an extended visit in Eastern countries that he became aware of the art and history of the places he visited. An appreciation of art, artists and history became a subject he would endeavor to enlarge and continue from that time on. Returning to Pakistan, he began his love and collection of art and artists of his country.
Initially, he was surprised at the lack of facilities and interest towards art and artists in the country, and he determined to make awareness of the extraordinary talent he discovered with a collection of his own. The results of his encouragement were seen in 2018 at the Karachi Museum, where a stunning collection of paintings by Iqbal Husain, Ahmed Khan and Chitra Pritam were displayed.
In Karachi, Nasir Javed developed a deep friendship with Tassaduq Sohail, the artist who returned to Pakistan after living many successful years as an artist in London. Sohail shared Nasir’s fascination with Eastern Art history, and the two met regularly, enjoying discussions on the history of art and artists over a cup of tea.
Nasir Javed missed Sohail very much when the artist suffered his last illness. He was determined that Sohail should be honoured and remembered by a book, and an exhibition of his work.
The exhibition was held at a prestigious Karachi Hotel, where over one hundred of the artist’s paintings from Nasir Javed’s collection were shown to invited guests. Distinguished artists from Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad were invited for the occasion as were interested, important political members of the country. It was a stunning occasion, and one imagined the artist, Tassaduq Sohail, smiling down on the party. The artist, who had happily, initially in London, hung his work on the railings of Hyde Park at week-ends along with other chosen artists after his art school experience in London, was now one of the most appreciated artists in his own country, His work was shown in numerous countries; he was featured on the BBC, and his work and exhibitions, written up by leading art writers in the UK and abroad. Nasir Javed arranged for a book to be written about Sohail, one with many of his paintings shown. It will be launched in London as well as in Pakistan, so that in times to come, Tassaduc Sohail will not be forgotten, Nasir Javed has many ideas and plans to project the art of Pakistan, a country with outstanding artists in every part of the country.

Nasir Javed
Founder & Chairman
Mr. Nasir Javed founded Crescent Art Gallery in 2006 with aims different to any other art collectors and curators in Pakistan. After his visits to different parts of the globe, Mr. Nasir had experienced various art forms that intrigued him to such an extent that it had become his passion. Mr. Nasir then met many different collectors, artists and curators from Pakistan and researched the vast depth of traditional Pakistani art. This research led him to the conclusion that despite having many good art galleries there is still a gap in the art world of Pakistan that needs to be filled. Since more than the past decade, Mr. Nasir has helped artists and bought several works of art and created the need of it through active promotion with aims to fill this gap. Only an exception of people promote art in Pakistan, therefor Crescent Art Gallery, since 2006, aims to fill this gap and is highly inclined to promote Pakistani Art on a new level never to have been witnessed before. "We not only do the right thing but I want to make sure that art remains healthy in Pakistan"
